1. Introduction

TripMingle ("TripMingle", "we", "us", "our") operates the TripMingle mobile application and this website (together, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Information we collect

2.1 Account information

  • Email address and password (stored in encrypted/hashed form) when you register directly.
  • Name and email address when you sign in with Google. We do not collect or store your Google profile photo.
  • Phone number and gender, which you provide as part of your profile.

2.2 Trip information

  • Trip name, starting point, ending point, and start time.
  • Source affinity and destination affinity (the radius, in meters or kilometers, you're willing to match within).
  • Start-time flexibility (plus or minus, in minutes or hours).
  • Trip status and history, including trips you've created, edited, cancelled, matched, or completed.

2.3 Matching and communication data

  • Ride requests you send or receive, and whether they're accepted or declined.
  • Messages you exchange with a mingler in the in-app chat.
  • Match history, including pairs that have been mutually declined twice and are no longer shown to each other.

2.4 Device and usage information

  • Device type, operating system, and app version.
  • Log data such as crash reports and diagnostic information, used to keep the app running smoothly.

We do not access or collect your device's location. Starting and ending points for a trip are entered manually — see Location and trip data below.

3. How we use your information

  • To create and manage your account, including Google Sign-In authentication.
  • To match your trip against other users' trips using your stated filters.
  • To power in-app chat and ride requests between matched users.
  • To calculate an optimized route once two trips are matched.
  • To maintain trip history, so you can review past trips.
  • To keep the Service secure, prevent abuse, and enforce our Terms.
  • To fix bugs and improve matching quality.

4. How information is shared

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in these cases:

  • With other users, by design: your trip filters, display name, and chat messages are visible to a mingler you're matched or chatting with.
  • Service providers: we use third parties to run the Service, for example cloud hosting, Google Sign-In authentication, and mapping/routing providers for the optimized route feature. These providers process data on our behalf only to provide their service to us.
  • Legal reasons: if required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of TripMingle, our users, or the public.
  • Business transfers: if TripMingle is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, information may transfer as part of that transaction.

5. Location and trip data

TripMingle does not access or collect your device's GPS or location data. When you create a trip, you manually enter your starting point and ending point (for example, by typing or selecting an address). Those points, along with your affinity radius, are used to find compatible trips.

6. Chat and matching data

Messages sent through in-app chat are stored so both participants can see conversation history and so we can investigate abuse reports. Ride request outcomes (accepted, declined) and the two-decline "no longer visible" rule are stored to enforce that rule going forward.

7. Data retention and deletion

We keep account and trip data for as long as your account is active, plus a limited period afterward for legal, security, and record-keeping purposes. You can request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time by emailing tripminglehq@gmail.com. Some information may be retained where required by law or to resolve disputes.

8. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures — including encryption in transit, access controls, and password hashing — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Your rights and choices

  • Access and correction: review and update your profile and trip details in-app at any time.
  • Deletion: request account and data deletion by emailing tripminglehq@gmail.com — this is currently the only way to delete your account or data.
  • Marketing communications: see our Marketing Policy for our current approach.

10. International data transfers

Your information may be processed and stored in countries other than your own, including [country where servers are hosted]. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice such as an in-app message.
